Food for Satyrs
The “Food for Satyrs” day excursion takes us to locations where the huge abundance of wild Orchids, Ophris, Tulips, Crocus and many, many other wild flowers of Crete can be enjoyed in their natural environment.
Under the guidance of our knowledgeable guide, participants will be introduced to the wonderful world of the beautiful Fauna and Flora of Crete at its best. As with all our excursions, the price includes pick up from your hotel/lodgings (providing it is in or near to Georgioupolis), and a full meal in a Greek taverna.
This excursion consists mainly of walking country roads and some very limited, easy off-road walking. "Food for Satyrs" offers some excellent opportunities for nature photography.
Our first of two stops on "Food for Satyrs" involves a walk around. and if the conditions allow, through an inconspicious looking piece of march land which soon shows itself to be home to a good few different species of Orchids, Ophrys, different species of Anemones in 4 different colours, a variety of diffent buttercups, flowering trees and a host of wonderful dragonflies, damselflies. and waterbirds.
On the excursion you are guaranteed to see a number of wild, often endemic (to be found on Crete only) flowers, plants and small animals. The wonderous world of Cretan Fauna and Flora, combined with the peacefulness of the immense open spaces the Cretan landscape presents us with make for an unforgettable experience.
In order to minimise the environmental impact on the area, the excursion is made with a group of maximum 8 people only.
