Ballos Travel Agency offers day excursions leaving every Tuesday from Georgioupolis to Balos beach and Gramvousa island, two of the most popular tourist destinations in Crete. The total cost of this excursion is €45 per person. This cost includes your return bus journey from Georgioupoli to Kissamos, and your return ferry journey to both Gramvousa and Balos.
Imeri Gramvousa, commonly referred to as just “Gramvousa” is also known as “Pirate island”. The imposing fortress on top of the cliffs is a sight to behold. If you are planning to go up to the clifftop and visit the fortress, you are advised to wear good, sturdy, closed walking shoes for that part of your visit.
Balos Beach, the second leg of this trip, consists of the beach itself and the lagoon behind it. The crystal clear, warm turquoise waters are a joy to swim in, while the lagoon offers a safe place for children to play in. The seaward side of the beach is a fantastic place to enjoy some exquisite snorkelling, as is the rocky shore of the headland of Tigani.
Both Gramvousa island and Balos beach are part of the Natura 2000 program and are protected areas.
Although Balos and Gramvousa are primarily known as places for sun-worship, both destinations have a lot more to offer.
